What is sandalwood essential oil?

Sandalwood essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of wood from the East Indian Sandalwood tree. It has an earthy, woody aroma and is golden in colour.

Sandalwood essential oil was popular in medicinal remedies as an antiseptic and was used to treat headaches, stomachache and inflammation.

Where we source it from and why?

We source our sandalwood oil from Australia but it is not Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum). It is Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), however the tree is grown in Australia.

We decided to source this oil from Australia due to concerns of sustainability, traceability and purity on the Indian market.

We found that a lot of the Indian sandalwood originating from India has been adulterated which compromises the purity. There was also no guarantee of sustainable practices.
